Staying at Hotel Pulitzer in Amsterdam

Staying at Hotel Pulitzer in Amsterdam

If traditional rooms, bad motel art, and restaurants with absolutely no character sound like your dream hotel stay, then the Hotel Pulitzer is not for you.

This gorgeous hotel in the Nine Streets neighborhood is a unique and charming glimpse into the heart of Amsterdam. I loved staying in this hotel and exploring the city around it.

The Property

When you first step into Hotel Pulitzer, you will feel like you’ve been transported into a wonderland of Dutch art, history, culture, and whimsy. This 5-star hotel perfectly balances on the line between luxury and intimate charm; I would recommend it for anyone planning a trip to Amsterdam.

Joseph Pultizer’s grandson Peter Pulitzer purchased 12 run-down canal houses in 1960 and shuttered them together to create Amsterdam’s first-ever 5-star hotel. In 2016, the hotel underwent massive renovations that beautifully pair Pulitzer’s classic design with modern touches.

The Rooms

Each room is unique at the Hotel Pulitzer. There are 225 rooms built into 25 Golden Age canal houses at this property, all connecting through an intricate series of hallways with twists and turns – it is definitely not your traditional hotel hallway.

Guests have the ability to choose from standard rooms or themed suites for the antique, art, or book lover. All rooms feature an in-room safe, desk area, and bike repair kit (it is Amsterdam, after all!).

Dining

Pause at Pulitzer

Grab a light bite at Pause at Pulitzer! Open daily from 7am – 10pm, Pause is perfect for a quick meal or a cocktail after a day of sightseeing.

Pulitzer’s Bar

We opted to stop into Pulitzer’s Bar for a quick drink upon checking in. The service was amazing and the drinks were delicious! The dark woods and cozy decor will make you feel like you’re sipping a cocktail in a writer’s study. Don’t just take my word for it – Pulizter’s Bar was voted Best Hotel Bar 2019 in Amsterdam.

Jansz

Jansz is Hotel Pulitzer’s upscale dining option. White marble, blush pink touches, and a light and airy      Brunch is an absolute must-do, as the food was delicious! The restaurant was never overly crowded and the service was excellent.

Nearby Attractions

Nestled in the center of the Canal Belt, the Hotel Pulitzer is at the center of it all! The Anne Frank house is .1 miles away, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museums are about a mile away, and the canals are outside the front door.

One of the best parts of the Hotel Pulitzer is its walkability. Explore Amsterdam and don’t forget these six must-dos!
